The GEAR of Eden: The Egg

The Egg is a giant recording device which maneuvers - using time - about the Terran-Lunar orbitals. It was constructed by Amber Sith from anachrona [qv] and was neuralized into a highly advanced artificial lifeform.

Excerpt from The Veil of Eden

Moving to the aft compartment, Nina sees Quay and Ornoc staring at an oddly convex, ornate wall that should not be there. The ornamental design seems topical, yet functional. It appears to be some sort of net to form a guideline for the shape of the wall. The black ornamentation seems to be part of one large, coherent design which is alien yet familiar all at once. The wall itself seems to scintillate in a somewhat chaotic pattern from white through grey to the same color black as the ornamentation.

.

The Egg, like a child, is absorbing so much. Sending it loving thoughts continuously and playing 'hide-and-seek' is the least Amber feels that she should do. The game appears to have emerged from programming and some form of reflexive-level memory that it has formed. What they see is a projected image of its form. The Egg itself is almost always transparent as waves pass through it unaltered. Should one, improbably, step inside The Egg; one would see the inside of The Egg and finally be able to interact with it. The paradox of finding The Egg for the first time amuses them both.

Once inside, Quay concentrates on The Egg. His mind expands to fill the psionic mechanisms of The Egg: it feels like the weight of his skull has been removed. His inner eye is now unfettered by human limitations as he can see in all directions, including his own being. Odd wavelengths dance before him as his mind quickly finds patterns within the chaos. Snapshots throughout time skip through his mind as he realizes the function of The Egg: to record history forwards, backwards and all around. Quay sees some blank spots as The Egg is still recording. There is, however, enough within its memory to look beyond the Veil of Eden.
