The GEAR of Eden: Chameleon Suit
A chameleon suit [aka still armor] is worn by NU troops employing stealth. They absorb light emissions from their environment and blend the wearer in as if they were a part of it. Of course, one must employ biànsè xiyì style feng shui in order to use one of these suits properly. Standing just anywhere can create optical paradoxes which will in turn draw attention rather than divert it. When properly employed, however, the trick is to remain as still as possible and certainly not move faster than 5 centimeters in any one second or your outline will appear, even if your color still blends.
Excerpt from The Veil of Eden
It seems unlikely that [the soldiers] will be noticed during the conflict considering their still-camouflage makes them appear to be part of the dolomite grotto - they are virtually invisible. As the APC floats down the old Roman road, Alpha Company jumps out westward - or riverside; Bravo Company exits eastward to be hemmed in between the cliffs and the road. As each soldier falls into place behind a boulder, they assume their initial attack stance. It takes each soldier but 15 seconds to adjust their musculature and breathing before their personal chameleon suits fully activate.
The suits camouflage them by redirecting the rays of their environment so as to make each soldier appear to be merely a boulder or a tree-trunk. The trick is to hold perfectly still since boulders and tree trunks don't usually jump around a lot. The suit also needs 5 seconds to readjust should it be displaced more than 5 centimeters in any one second. The other liability is that the soldiers cannot activate their kinetic armor until after their initial attack. The metallic glare from kinetic armor is too easy to spot and does not work with chameleon suits. The Oriental Empire appreciatively names the art of using a chameleon suit biànsè xiyì style feng shui.
As the nature of the Dolomites is dolomite, the crystalline rocks have a tendency to throw a sound far without diminution. The rock also has the tendency to throw it in a tightly focused path. Every little sound that Bravo Company makes is transmitted in such a fashion. Five thousand men standing in rubble are just not soundless. The overall effect, fortunately is that of tiny tinkling noises as if small particles are cascading down the cliff face.
