The GEAR of Eden: A(rmored) G(ravity) R(edirectional) V(ehicle)
The GRV [Gravity Redirectional Vehicle] is the standard mode of travel in 2272 CE for developed nations. They can be any shape or size but generally have at least 2 standard interlocking hatches - one on either side, port and starboard for linking. Some GRVs will even have hatches on the top, bottom and rear. They are intended to link easily with other GRVs while hovering for conferences.
As gravity is as yet unlimited, aerodynamics are not usually a factor in design. Some militaries, of course, have a few aerodynamic interceptors. Non-military aerodynamic vehicles are very expensive and therefore not very practical.
GRVs have a superconducting moebius tube or band which runs through the floorplating along the base circumference. By rolling this band, gravity is redirected causing the craft to raise, lower, hover or move in any direction.
An AGRV is an Armored GRV.
Excerpt from The Veil of Eden
With her feet, Tia manually rolls the superconducting track which, in turn, redirects gravity 180º. The AGRV rockets upward into space.
...
Delta Two enters and salutes. Ornoc gestures to the holo next to Nina's showing her AGRV trajectory. "We need to play catch," Ornoc instructs, "with a very light touch."
"No problem, sir," Delta Two moves to the AI holo-controls.
Ornoc wouldn't be surprised if they actually practice this sort of thing during Delta training. Within seconds, Delta Two accelerates the conjoined AGRV upwards. He depicts a ballistic trajectory for Nina's shuttle with a wide window of error.
"If the Colonel could disengage the GR plating on my mark, we will be able to adjoin your vehicle to ours..." Delta Two fast forwards his impromptu holo "just as your vehicle achieves theoretical zero-momentum at the apex of its trajectory."
"Right," Nina responds. "Hit the kill switch on your mark. Got it. Sergeant?"
"Understood!" Tia replies. Nina isn't sure whether Elstenix' agony was from a foot cramp, her concussion, or a whole slew of issues.
What must have been an eternity later, Sergeant Tia Elstenix sees Private Mulden's head snap sharply to the right. Out of the cockpit he sees Delta Two rise up from below starboard.
"Ready," Nina orders.
"Mark," Delta Two signals.
"Disengage," Nina orders.
The AGRV seems to disconnect from their bodies momentarily where once it had been an omnipresent force beneath them. Their safety restraints press into their sides then as the AGRV is pulled starboard. A resonating shock wave rings through the hull as their AGRVs conjoin. The AGRV stops as if it has just risen through a landing pad then landed on it without dropping so much as an inch.
The hatch opens to reveal two more conjoined AGRVs and an NU soldier with no discernable markings.
"Colonel Sage?" Delta Two asks. Nina nods. "Delta Two," he introduces himself.
